The abbreviated fall season is nearing its end for most sports – tennis finished last week – while the spring season is gearing up with tryouts this weekend.

The Greenwave tennis teams finished their season on Saturday against North Valleys. No postseason tournament will take place.

For football, soccer and volleyball, there will be no postseason, but each team is scheduled to get one more game. With no crossover competition against the 3A West, the Nos. 1 and 2 teams will face off next week, along with the Nos. 3 vs. 4 and Nos. 5 vs. 6 teams with all games at the higher seed.

For Oasis Academy in the 1A, a 1A West-Central volleyball tournament is scheduled for next Friday in Tonopah. The Bighorns will also compete against non-league schools next week leading up to the tournament.

For girls golf, the season ends Monday for the Greenwave in Elko with a 3A East tournament while the NIAA plans on hosting a cross country regional on Saturday for the 1A/2A divisions, which will compete in Carson City beginning at noon. The 3A/5A regional meet will be on April 10 at Reed High School in Sparks.

Spring sports can begin this weekend with tryouts and practices
The Fallon track and field team will hold its first practice at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the track complex, while the baseball and softball programs will have tryouts at 10 a.m. Boys golf and swimming programs will begin practice on Monday.

For Oasis Academy, lacrosse, softball and boys golf will begin next week.

The Bighorns are in a unique position because lacrosse is not affiliated with the NIAA. High school teams can include players from Churchill County schools.

Workouts are this week at the county fields behind the indoor pool with high school girls today (Wednesday) from 4-6 p.m. and middle school girls today and Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. High school and middle school boys work out Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and Friday from 4-6 p.m.
