ELKO — Fallon split a doubleheader Saturday with Elko in Northern 3A East baseball, taking the first game 13-9 but losing the second game.

Fallon (5-4)  travels to Spring Creek (1-8) on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. league game, and then hosts the Spartans in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. Spring Creek’s only win came against Fernley.

The Wave had to come from behind twice against the Indians (6-3) in the first game. Elko took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Alex Salaz rode a Damien Towne pitch for an RBI double.

Fallon, though, scored five runs in the third inning. The Wave loaded the bases on three singles from Brady Alves, Matt Davis and Cooper Lee. Towne’s hit knotted the score 1-1. Trevor Austin and Bryce Adams followed, each hitting a two-run single to give Fallon a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Indians scored on two errors. Salaz, Dillon Eden, Craig Slater and Lincoln Ratliff each singled home a run.

Fallon pitcher Bryce Adams began the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against Elko.

In a game of big innings, the Wave pushed across runs in the top of the fourth inning. Davis doubled in a run, while Lee and Strasdin each had RBI singles. Austin’s fielder’s choice scored a run to give Fallon a 9-8 lead, and a passed ball allowed two runs to score. The Wave scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, one on a passed ball and the other run on Lee’s sacrifice fly.

Towne earned the win, and Francisco Tapia finished the final three innings. Nick Collie suffered the loss for Elko.
Fallon fell to Elko in the second game, 13-9 as the Indians scored in the first three innings to take a 10-0 lead. Each team scored three runs in the fifth.

Errors and miscues ball kept Elko alive in the first inning. Kaiden Cervantes, and Eden each singled in a run, and Slater’s two-run single gave Elko a 4-0 lead. A wild pitch scored the fifth run. Elko’s only earned run came on Eden’s groundout.
Lee singled home a run in the fifth, and Towne responded with a two-run RBI double. Eden and Alvaro drove in runs for Elko, and a passed ball led to another run.

Adams suffered the loss for Fallon, and Ratcliff picked up the win.

GAME 1: FALLON 6, ELKO 3
For all practical purposes, the outcome in Fallon’s Northern 3A East baseball game against Elko was decided in the first inning as the Wave cruised to a 6-3 win Wednesday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex.

After spotting Elko a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Fallon scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, enough to stand up to give Greenwave pitcher Tyler Austin the win. Towne’s performance, though, on the mound handcuffed Elko as the Fallon hurler fanned 14 walked four and allowed five hits over seven innings. He also drove in a run to help his cause.

Austin walked the first two batters he faced in the first inning. Lincoln Ratliff grounded out to score Elko’s first run, and after Austin struck out Kaiden Cervantes, Trae Still scorched a hard line drive to center field to drive in Nick Collie, who had walked.

Austin’s teammates rallied around their starter in the bottom of the inning.

Matt Davis lined an 0-2 pitch for a triple to centerfield followed by Cooper Lee’s RBI infield grounder. Elko pitcher Dillon Eden then walked the next three batters to load the bases for Bryce Adams, one of two freshmen on the roster.  Adams gave Fallon a 3-2 lead with a single to centerfield. Brady Alves, the other freshman, then laced a single to right field to double the lead.
Fallon added a run in the bottom of the third on Damien Towne’s single, and a final run in the fifth inning on Towne’s single to centerfield.

SECOND GAME
Both teams played a second game, but it won’t count in the standings. Elko defeated Fallon 18-15.

Coaches had decided to play the game to give each team’s reserve players more playing time.

Toby Anderson paced Fallon with a three-hit game and two RBIs. Baylor Sandberg, Francisco Tapia and Kodus Wehe each had two hits and drove in a run. Alves drove in three runs on two hits.

Cade Barton and Evan Crandall each finished the game with a hit and RBI, and Lucas Prinz knocked in a run.
Fallon, which fell behind Elko, tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with two runs. The visitors, though, scored three runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win.
