There will be a free UTV training class on Friday beginning at 8 a.m. at Sand Springs Summit area about 25 miles east of Fallon, reports Churchill County Sheriff Richard Hickox.
The class will consist of vehicle familiarity, control operation, straight-line operation, braking, both normal and quick stop, turning, and swerving. The class will be approximately three hours in length and is a ROHVA sanctioned class.
Hickox said Monday there were a few spots remaining.
The member companies of the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association are BRP, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Textron off-road, Yamaha, and Yanmar who underwrite the cost of developing and maintaining the materials and support delivery of this training. Some of these manufacturers offer rebates or other incentives for completing both the closed course and the trail ride portions.
The Driver-Coaches are specially trained, authorized, and certified by ROHVA, all are experienced riders.
The pre-requisite for this class is the completion of the e-cCourse from the ROHVA website at rohva.com. A registrant will need to furnish the completion certificate to register for the class. Equipment needed for the class: A UTV (Maximum of two drivers) DOT-approved helmet with eye protection. Sturdy over the ankle footwear. Full fingered gloves. Long sleeve shirt and pants.
Upon successful completion of the closed course (part 1), each driver will receive a Driver Performance Card along with the ROV Tip Guide. Part 2 of the class will immediately follow the closed-course portion and will consist of an approximately 30-minute open trail ride to practice the learned techniques and others such as sidehill driving, sandy terrain, rocky terrain, backing downhill, etc.
Upon successful conclusion of both courses, you will receive a course completion card from the ROHVA national office. It is suggested you bring snacks, drinks, and lunch for the class.
Participants are limited for the class.
