1st Lt. Emerson Marcus of Sparks is the Nevada National Guard’s new public affairs officer who will oversee the agency’s communications department.
Marcus has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and master's in history from the University of Nevada, Reno. He worked five years as a reporter at the Reno Gazette Journal before joining the Nevada National Guard public affairs staff as the command historian in 2015. Since 2018, he has also served as the public affairs officer of the 152nd Airlift Wing, Nevada Air National Guard.
Kirschenbaum, a 36-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, has served as Nevada National Guard public affairs officer since 2015. He is transferring to the Arizona National Guard.
“Community is one of my five strategic priorities,” said Maj. Gen. Ondra Berry, Nevada’s adjutant general. “Lt. Col. Kirschenbaum has done a great job in his role communicating with the public and fostering a commitment to transparency and good relations with our communities across the great state of Nevada and the nation. I wish him well in his new pursuits, and remain extremely confident in Lt. Marcus’ experience and abilities as the next state public affairs officer.”
