Nevada’s U.S. House delegation joined by California Rep. John Garamendi has introduced the Lake Tahoe Restoration Reauthorization Act.
The act would pump $415 million in federal funding to projects in the basin between its passage and Sept. 30, 2034.
“Anyone who has experienced Lake Tahoe’s exceptional beauty understands the importance of preserving this national treasure for future generations,” said Rep. Mark Amodei, whose district includes the Nevada side of the basin.
He said the legislation will responsibly invest in management solutions that preserve Tahoe’s unique environment, upholding the federal commitment to prevent threats and combat invasive species.
Reps. Dina Titus, Susie Lee and Steven Horsford all Democrats, joined Amodei in sponsoring the bipartisan act. All described the lake as a national treasure that must be protected.
They were joined by Garamendi, a Democrat whose district is between San Francisco and Sacramento.
