AAA Nevada would like to congratulate eighth grade student Sophia Jones at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School for her leadership, volunteerism and safety skills during the pandemic as part of its longstanding AAA School Safety Patrol program.
More than 7,000 students in more than 200 schools across Nevada participate in AAA School Safety Patrol. This year, Jones was the only Nevada student to win the Patroller of the Year award.
“Safety Patrol has taught me how to be a better leader,” said Jones. “Hearing from parents that they are impressed with our school’s safety patrol program makes me feel happy.”
“Sophia is creative with her ideas, doesn’t hesitate to speak up when she needs to, and is kind and considerate to her classmates,” said Peggy Burger, principal of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School.
Over the last 100 years, the AAA School Safety Patrol program has helped students become change makers by inspiring them to build safer, more inclusive communities.
“We are proud to celebrate the student leaders who made a positive difference in their community during a very difficult school year,” said Karen Bianchini, senior vice president of Community Impact at AAA Nevada. “Thank you for all that you do to keep your school and community safe.”
Jones will receive a plaque in recognition of her work. St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School will receive a $2,000 grant to support its AAA School Safety Patrol program.
