The Fallon Chamber of Commerce recently conducted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome Great Basin Urgent Care to Churchill County.

Great Basin Urgent Care also provides services in St. George, Utah. Chris Sessions, a PA-C (physician assistant-certified), has been practicing emergency medicine to the rural parts of the country since earning his Masters of PA Studies in 2016. He said Great Basin is a private company that provides knowledgeable family medicine, and the professional staff is trained in emergency room care. He said Great Basin is expanding in both Nevada and Utah. Great Basin’s medical director is Dr. Beraldo Vazquez-Correa, and Sessions said the Fallon office will have the same provider rotation.

“Our goal is we like rural Nevada,” he said on leading a tour of the new facility located at 50 Commercial Way. “We’ve been all over. We know the state well.”

Sessions said the urgent care services are just that.

“We take care of broken bones and follow through the process,” he said. “If we need an orthopedic surgeon, we’ll arrange for that.”

Sessions said the uniqueness about urgent care services is its quickness in seeing patients and its affordability compared to emergency rooms. Sessions said Great Basin has the facility to conduct lab tests or drug tests and release the information on A1C and cholesterol results.

“We can test right here,” he said, also pointing out Great Basin Urgent Care can take x-rays.

Sessions said the physical assistants or technicians can perform the first reading of x-ray results and treat the patients. From there, the x-rays are sent for further analysis.  Sessions said the x-rays are then forwarded to a radiology group which is board-trained and certified. In addition to taking x-rays, Great Basin performs blood draws for pre-operation procedures with results sent to the surgeon.

During the tour, Sessions answered a question, saying Great Basin may be able to schedule mammogram van visits to the Fallon facility.

“If there is another need, let us know, and we’ll do what the community needs,” said Sessions who served in the Arizona Army National Guard for eight years.

Sessions said Great Basin also conducts physicals and will be perform high-school sports physicals for next season.
Great Basin Urgent Care. 50 Commercial Way, will take walk-in patients, and individuals may call 775-423-2222 or use the online feature for scheduling an appointment. Sessions said most health plans are accepted.
