The Churchill County School District Board of Trustees met Wednesday for their first meeting of May and approved contracts for technology and health insurance as well as approving the Capital Improvement Plan.
Trustees began the meeting by recognizing two student groups. The Churchill County High School FFA Chapter students placed first for the State of Nevada National Chapter Award, and the Churchill County High School HOSA Future Health Professionals students were state winners and International qualifiers at the State Conference.
Trustees approved a contract for Oasis Online to provide technology support and other related services for $483,072 from July 1 through June 30, 2022.
The contract includes such items as network management, which consists of server installation and configuration, bandwidth monitoring, network troubleshooting, evaluating and recommending hardware, user account creation and management, software/hardware monitoring and update and diagnostics; liaison between third party vendors and district; software installations; represent the district to the Nevada Department of Education technology director; and manage help desk operations.
The board accepted a renewal proposal from LP Insurance Services for CIGNA (medical coverage), VSP (vision coverage), and Kansas City Life (dental and life coverage) for July 2021 through June 2022.
Earlier this year, Kevin Lords, director of Administrative Services and Operations, said LP Insurance Services provided a quote from CIGNA, the school district’s current health insurance with a rate increase of 11% with no changes to the school district’s current plan.
The school district’s insurance committee consisting of representatives from the three associations and district office personnel asked how the rate increase could be reduced. Tim Holland from LP Insurance Services and the committee were able to reduce the increase to 8% for the upcoming year.
Trustees approved the five-year Capital Improvement Plan. Lords said the school district has begun replacing the white fleet. In his memo to trustees, Lords said the district has begun purchasing the first items that were identified as key priorities for the fiscal year 2021 plan.
