Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., voted against the Capitol Security supplemental appropriation citing the lack of specificity and huge cost. The measure would have funded a $1.9 billion study of security at the U.S. Capitol. “This is an enormous amount of funding for legislation that contains very little specificity,” he said. “There should be lessons learned from Jan. 6, however, it is clear this was a phenomenally unusual event.” He said he supports ongoing bipartisan assessments of security at the Capitol, “but I am unwilling to spend billions in funding to cover hypothetical costs.” He said the issue of security does require some funding but that $1.9 billion is irresponsible and couldn’t even be spent in the rest of this year.
