Nevada added back another 8,400 jobs in April for a total of 196,200 more jobs than in April 2020.
With more than 1.3 million Nevadans now back at work, the state’s unemployment rate has fallen to 8 percent. While that is still double what it was before the pandemic hit. It indicates significant economic recovery.
For the Carson City reporting area, 100 more jobs were added compared to March. The capital has seen an increase of 3,000 jobs since April 2020.
While Reno’s employment actually decreased 300 jobs in April, that area is up 30,100 compared to the previous April.
The Las Vegas area has gained 152,100 jobs compared to a year ago.
The biggest gains were reported by the accommodations and food services in the Las Vegas area as restrictions ease and the hospitality industry ramps up rehiring.
Reno’s construction industry and manufacturing in Las Vegas also saw notable gains, according to DETR Chief Economist Dave Schmidt.
He said total statewide employment remains 134,000 below pre-pandemic levels.
