In Second Kings chapter six, Elisha, the prophet of God was in the city of Dothan and found the whole city surrounded by the armed forces of Syria. His assistant was greatly disturbed. “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
To be honest with you, for over a year I have felt surrounded! The pandemic, racial and political tensions, violence, and even natural disasters and everyday uncertainties seem to have me hemmed in and confined!
I ask the same question as did Elisha’s aide, “What shall we do?”
The prophet’s answer is classic, “Do not be afraid, for those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.” Elisha prays that his servant’s eyes be opened. Right then and there it was apparent that they were not alone as the mountain was filled with angels, horses, and chariots of fire.
That story reminds me that whatever is going on around us, we are not alone.
My good friend, also a Carson City minister, often makes a statement that I find myself using often. “God’s got this!”
You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
For you bless the righteous person, Lord, you surround him with favor as with a shield (Psalm 5:12).
