Gov. Steve Sisolak on Thursday night signed legislation raising the minimum age for people to buy tobacco products to 21.
The increase from 18 years old in AB59 takes effect immediately.
In addition, the bill expands the prohibition to include not only cigarettes and other tobacco products but all other products including nicotine in vaping and other products.
It requires sellers of tobacco products to verify the name, date of birth and residential address of buyers through an independent third-party age verification service.
Violations would bring fines up to $1,000 per sale and potentially the suspension or revocation of the seller’s license.
