Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said Thursday that the Veterans Administration has identified a 15-acre parcel of land owned by the City of Elko as the site for that area’s veteran’s cemetery.
She said the cemetery will serve over 4,000 veterans and is the largest cemetery under the VA’s rural initiative.
Initial construction will include five acres of burial ground. The remaining 10 acres will be held in reserve for future expansion.
She said Elko veterans and community leaders have waited for this day almost 10 years.
