Despite losing back-to-back five-game matches to Fernley and Dayton, Fallon needed to sweep both Elko and Spring Creek and for Lowry to lose its remaining matches against the same opponents. It came down to the final day after Spring Creek defeated Lowry and Fallon handed Elko a four-game loss on Wednesday. However, Lowry swept Elko on Thursday while Spring Creek swept Fallon to end the Lady Wave’s season. Fallon finished 4-6 in the 3A East. Fernley (8-2) finished the second half of the season strong to win the regular-season league title after rebounding with a 3-1 win at Dayton on Thursday. Dayton’s 6-4 record sealed the second seed while Spring Creek (5-5) is the third seed. The Northern 3A regional tournament is Friday and Saturday at the Elmo Dericco Gymnasium. No. 2 Wooster (3A West) takes on Spring Creek at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by Dayton vs. No. 3 South Tahoe (3A West) at 7. The Wooster-Spring Creek winner faces Fernley on Saturday at noon, while No. 1 Truckee (3A West) awaits the winner of Dayton-South Tahoe) at 1:45 p.m. The winners advance to the regional championship at 4 p.m. and state meet, which is next weekend at Hug High School. In the 1A, Oasis Academy played out of conference last Wednesday, losing to Hug on the road. The Bighorns played their final home game of the year on Saturday against Coral Academy. Seniors Lauren Halloran, Jelen Rose Bayoneta and Elisabeth Bird were honored before the match.
