At their Tuesday meeting, the Washoe County Commissioners chose Donald Tatro as their nominee to fill the Nevada Senate District 16 vacancy left by resigned Sen. Ben Kieckhefer.
In a meeting Nov. 4, the Carson City Board of Supervisors chose Robert Weise as their nominee to fill the seat.
Based on District 16’s population, Carson City has four votes toward Weise, and Washoe County has six votes toward Tatro. They will host a joint meeting Thursday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m., to hold a final vote.
Those who would like to attend the meeting in-person and participate in public comment are invited to do so at the Washoe County Commissioner Chambers on 1001 E. 9th St., Reno. Otherwise, the meeting will be broadcast via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84752589372.
The meeting will also be streamed through www.carson.org/granicus via the “In Progress” link. Though, folks who use the Granicus system to watch the meeting live will not be able to participate in public comment.
Tatro grew up in Carson City but now lives in Washoe County. He is most familiar with the legislative process through his work as executive director of the Builders Association of Northern Nevada, along with his past roles as press secretary for U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma, and deputy press secretary for U.S. Sen. John Ensign, R-Nevada.
On a local level, Tatro has also sat on Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve’s Housing Task Force, the Washoe County Managers Advisory Committee, and the Reno Sparks Association of Realtors legislative committee.
