A 35-year-old transient was arrested in Carson City on Tuesday on charges of arson and homicide in Las Vegas.
At 8:39 p.m. Carson City Sheriff’s deputies responded to a gas station on College Parkway for a suspicious vehicle trespassing on the property.
Upon arrival, deputies tried to make contact with Shyhelee Jamal Coleman, who was uncooperative.
Deputies ran the vehicle identification number and found it belonged to Coleman who is wanted out of Las Vegas.
After about 30 minutes of negotiations, Coleman opened his car door and threw out a large kitchen knife. He was arrested without incident.
He was booked in Carson City Jail with no bail.
Coleman was sought in connection with allegedly setting a fire in a house that killed his girlfriend. Fox 5 in Las Vegas reports Melynda Williams died in the Nov. 10 fire.
Coleman faces one count of first-degree arson, three counts of attempted murder, and three counts of willful killing of an animal. The investigation is still ongoing.
