The dog goddess answers Sam’s prayer

Shadow is a darling three-year-old Lab mix with one ear up and the other down. He is strong, muscular, and enjoys lots of activity. Shadow walks well on a leash, enjoys riding in the car, and is always up for a game of fetch. Come out for a play date. He is waiting to meet you.

We have three Lab/mix puppies. They are cute and ready for new homes.
Thanksgiving is Thursday, and it is our family’s favorite holiday. Who doesn’t love succulent turkey, snow white mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie? Of course, we always share memories of grand family gatherings.
My all-time favorite memory is the day that the dog goddess answered Sam’s silent prayer.
Sam was a magnificent Black Lab. He was huge and never missed a family gathering. A polite, but insistent beggar, he hung out by Mike, my brother, who always slipped him treats.
Our family was large and the table seated at least 20. At best, we were crowded together. One of the games my three brothers loved to play was please pass keep away. The way it worked was someone would say please pass the salt and, the salt would be passed around and around never getting to the person requesting it. An extremely annoying game they delighted in.
As dish after dish of steaming wonderful food filled the table, Sam’s eyes got bigger and bigger. He stared at each plate, and you could almost hear him wishing that the plate would fall. As we started to pass the food around the table, Mike reached for the gravy bowl, and it slipped out of his hand spilling the gravy onto the floor next to Sam. Everyone gasped!
Sam did not miss a beat, because he was in gravy heaven. Fortunately, mom had plenty of gravy and the dinner proceeded without a hitch. Sam was hailed as a hero, and he did an excellent job of cleaning up the spilled gravy. We all noticed his content expression.
Is there a dog goddess who answers dog’s prayers? I suspect there is, and I am sure Sam is looking down on us this Thanksgiving with his own bowl of gravy. Happy Thanksgiving from Watson’s family. XO
