Three Nevada counties are now listed as low risk for transmission of the coronavirus. One of the three — Esmeralda — has been low for two weeks and vaccinated residents there can skip wearing masks indoors.
White Pine is also considered low risk and Storey County is listed as moderate. A spokesman for Nevada Health Response said if they sustain those levels for another week, all vaccinated people will be able to go without masks indoors.
Low risk is defined as less than 10 new cases per 100,000 population and less than 5 percent positivity in tests in the past seven days.
Moderate risk is 10-50 new daily cases per 100,000 and less than 8 percent positivity in tests in the past seven days.
Nevada’s 14 other counties are all listed as either substantial or high risk because they don’t meet those standards.
The Centers for Disease Control recommends everyone including those who are vaccinated wear masks in public indoor settings in counties listed as high or substantial risk.
