Former Nevada Assemblywoman Ellen Spiegel has announce she is running for Secretary of State.
The office will be open because incumbent Republican Barbara Cegavske is term limited.
Spiegel, a Democrat, served five terms in the Assembly (2009 and 2013-19).
She said she understands the need to stand against attempts to attack voting rights and those attempting to stack statehouses against Democrats. She said they want to turn back the clock on reproductive health care, public education, climate change and economic parity. But Spiegel said the Secretary of State’s office is multifaceted, handling much more than voting rights.
“Now more than ever we need someone who has been in the trenches fighting for the issues we care most about,” she said.
