Sierra Lutheran High School senior Caleb Potts has been named a Commended Student in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program.
A letter of commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program, which conducts the program, will be presented to Potts by SLHS Dean of Students and Faculty Affairs Kitty Murphy on Oct. 7 at the school’s weekly chapel service.
Approximately 34,000 Commended Students across the country are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers out of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021-22 competition by taking part in the 2020 PSAT.
“When I first heard that I had received such an honor, it was a moment of simultaneous shock and excitement,” Potts said. “I know that I could not have reached these heights without the unending support of my parents and older sister; this is a testament to their character just as much as it is a testimony to my knowledge.”
Potts, who runs for the school’s cross country and track and field programs, will now be eligible to receive a wide range of scholarships from corporations and organizations across the country.
“The Sierra Lutheran community is extremely proud of Caleb,” Sierra Lutheran Executive Director Brian Underwood said. “His uncommon drive for excellence and his faithful Christian witness have earned him the universal respect of his peers, as well as the faculty and staff.”
Sierra Lutheran High School is ranked by Niche among the top 10 private schools in the state of Nevada.
