Outdoor watercolor artists will paint Carson City’s historic district this weekend as part of an “En Plein Air” competition. The Carson City Democrat Women’s Society and artist Colleen Reynolds are hosting the event. All are invited to attend a free watercolor demonstration on Saturday 3-5 p.m. in the Brewery Arts Center performance hall. The competition culminates in an auction and awards reception in the Governor’s Mansion, 606 Mountain St., on Sunday, Oct. 17 from 1-5 p.m. And, of course, residents may enjoy watching artists working outdoors throughout the city on Friday and Saturday, rain or shine. “You see it in movies all the time, but you just don’t see it in real life,” said Casey Currie, president of the CCDWC, referring to artists bringing their work outdoors. “This year, I think it could be the inauguration for something really cool.” Event updates and tickets for the reception are available at http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?oeidk=a07ehscjynq1813ff6e&llr=f8g86zlab. Proceeds from the weekend will go to the Capitol City CIRCLES initiative and a scholarship fund for Western Nevada College. Contact carsoncitydemwomen@gmail.com with any questions.
