Guy W. Farmer: President Biden’s ‘open borders’ policy

America's borders are wide open as hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants — including gang-bangers and drug and human traffickers — pour across our southern border with Mexico, thanks to President Biden's disastrous “open borders” policy. “Come one, come all; our borders are open," the Biden administration seems to be saying.
Earlier this month the Wall Street Journal reported that the U.S. Border Patrol “made about 1.66 million arrests of migrants crossing the U.S.- Mexico border illegally in the 2021 fiscal year, the highest annual number ever recorded.” And moreover, “nearly 145,000 children crossed the border into the U.S. without a parent, nearly double the previous record in 2019.” Thousands of these illegal immigrants were sent to cities throughout the U.S. on secretive night flights. I wonder how many of them were sent to Northern Nevada.
"Don't come," Biden's inept Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas tells the immigrants with a wink and a nod because they know they'll be well treated and given plenty of "free" stuff if they can make it to the border. Meanwhile, President Biden's Border Czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, stays as far away from the border as possible. Apparently, she's too busy appearing on "The View" and talking about space exploration with groups of carefully chosen child actors. Ms. Harris is a non-participant in the border crisis.
Biden himself is also too busy to visit the border. “I know I should go to the border, but I just don't have time,” he told a CNN Town Hall. But he does have time to spend every other weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware. He keeps telling fictitious “Joey” stories, making them up as he goes along, as the Washington Post fact-checker told us last week. “Mr. Biden often doesn't seem to know what he's talking about,” the Wall Street Journal commented.
Meanwhile, President Biden's approval ratings plummet, especially with independent voters like yours truly, due to the border crisis, the Afghan debacle and raging inflation. Have you been to the grocery store lately? We'll have a better idea of how the president is doing when Virginia voters go to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new governor. The choices are former Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Biden/Clinton clone, and political newcomer Glenn Youngkin, a staunch conservative. Somewhat surprisingly, the race is a tossup in a solid blue state that Biden won by 10 percentage points last November.
Back to Biden's border crisis, too many of the illegals released into the U.S. are dangerous criminals like 22-year-old Wilber Martinez-Guzman, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who has confessed to killing four people in Reno and Douglas County in January 2019. Think about him next time you welcome illegal immigrants to your hometown. That's what Gerald and Sharon David of Reno, and Constance Koontz and Sophia Renken of Gardnerville did, and they ended up dead.
I know that many, if not most, immigrants are honest, hard-working family people, but I'm concerned about national security when our federal government opens our borders to millions of illegal immigrants. Most of them are good people but every now and then a Guzman slips into our country. Those who violate our immigration laws should be sent right back to where they came from, with very limited exceptions for "dreamers" and legitimate asylum seekers. President Biden, please let the Border Patrol do its job.
