Three federally-funded programs that have been providing extended unemployment benefits to jobless Nevadans will expire Saturday.
The Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program has been providing an additional $300 to claimants eligible for at least $1 of a compensation program.
The Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation program has been providing an extension of benefits after a claimant exhausts regular unemployment benefits.
Finally, the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program has been providing benefits to claimants left jobless because of the pandemic but who aren’t eligible for regular unemployment payments such as the self-employed and gig workers.
A spokesman for the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation said Nevadans who are waiting for an eligibility determination or appeal decision for any of those federal programs should continue to file weekly claims. If they are eligible, they will be paid all benefits that were filed up to the expiration date, Sept. 4.
In addition, the State Extended Benefits program that provides an additional 13 weeks of federal benefits will expire Sept. 11. That program, too, is federally-funded and was not renewed by Congress.
DETR officials say all unemployed Nevadans and those looking to change jobs or find a new career are invited to use EmployNV.gov. That website provides help with resumes and applications as well as finding open jobs. It also has information about training and acquiring skills to in-demand careers. Many of those training programs offer financial assistance.
They can also use the Employment Recovery Program through Nevadaworks, which provides training and help finding a job in northern and rural Nevada.
