The governor’s Office of Economic Development is joining forces with the OnTrackNorthAmerica rail organization to create the Southwest Supply Chain Coalition.
GOED Deputy Director Kris Sanchez said the goal is to better connect markets and lower costs as well address other issues, including safety and congestion.
“Supply chains extend beyond individual companies, beyond individual industries and beyond state borders,” said Sanchez.
He said the coalition will develop a regional approach to improving the supply chains that serve California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. He said they expect developers, transportation and energy providers, shippers, regulators, planners and local officials to participate in the process.
OnTrackNorthAmerica CEO Michael Sussman said the effort is to adopt regional and common sense approaches to logistics and land use that benefit all users. A regional system would also relieve congestion by staging more activities outside the densely populated metro and port areas of California, moving processing and distribution facilities to Nevada, Utah and Arizona.
