Curious and beautiful: A little animal with about the same make up as a common gray or tree squirrel walked into the Warm Springs Hotel. The hospitable landlord, Matt Pixley, took the little fellow in to board. It is a squirrel and yet a leopard in color. It is quite tame, and appears to be well contented in his new home.

A buggy team from the Holstein Ranch ran away last evening and took two awning posts out of the porch in front of the Bullion & Exchange Bank--no injuries.

Kindergarten Tuesday: Carson is to have a long want filled. On Sept. 6 at 10 o’clock. Mrs. Murgotten will open a kindergarten at the Episcopal rectory.

Attendance grows: According to Principal John Blaikie the attendance figure will be higher as the school year progresses. A total of 624 boys and girls signed up for classes from kindergarten through the eighth grade on the first day of school. That’s a 24-child increase over last year.

Sunday School concert: The concert given at the Presbyterian Church was so pleasing an affair, and the attendance being so large that many were unable to hear, that there will be another performance. Those who were present pronounced it a rich treat.

Sale of Carriages: The sale of carriages belonging to the Tufly estate took place at Treadway’s Park, out of the city limits, to evade the law passed some time ago that said no auction should be conducted in the corporate limits of Carson City without a fee of $25 cash each day. The sum of $504.50 was realized and the old family carriage that used to be the pride of the late Geo. Tufly, was knocked down to Oliver Roberts for $285. Original cost was $1,600.

President shot: On September 6, 1901, President McKinley was in very critical condition after being shot by anarchist, Leon Czofgosz. McKinley’s wife was by his side at the Milford home. At six o’clock physicians announced that he could not recover.

Comstock Labor Day: The old hill had a come-back that was a success in every way. Events included a baseball game between the Virginia City team and the Southern Pacific team from Sparks. And an automobile race from Silver City to Virginia City was a real test of hill climbing, heavy car race, fistic events, and past glories of the Comstock.

Birthday for twins: Lyn Dale and Lee Alan Pochop, daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Pochop celebrated their third birthday at a party given by their grandmother, Mrs. Dale Pruett. Their guests were Sharon Yates, Evelyn and Eddie Smith, Lynda Ann LaDuke and their brother Stanley.

Cold: Ice was abundant—the first freeze of the season. The bar keeper endeavored to “freeze out” one of his customers who had been sitting by the stove all night. The mixologist put on a heavy overcoat and then allowed the fire to go out. But when the man woke him up in the morning, the customer hadn’t been discouraged. When the barkeeper asked what country he was from, the man yawned and said Lapland!

All sorts: Mrs. Gov. Colcord slipped off a ladder and severely sprained her knee. The lady is resting easily, although confined to her bed.

Tracey Chedic has some of the largest watermelons ever seen in Carson. He sells them by the yard, and almost makes you a present of them.

Electric light: The electric light plant on the Carson River had a break-down in the new machinery installed. Two new boilers had just been placed, and the first night there was an accident. The lights will be out for a couple of nights during which time the indulgence of the patrons is asked. Once the lights are restored it will be with better power and better service.
