After several weeks in the neighborhood of 50 or 52 or 51 new cases of COVID-19 in Carson City, the Delta strain came to town.
These numbers are the last nine weeks of new cases of COVID-19 in Carson City. They are taken from the weekly report in the Nevada Appeal. I'd say the lazy days of 50 or so new cases a week are over, we're now close to 1,000 cases a week. Wouldn't you agree? Active new cases: 51, 76, 99, 145, 237, 340, 475, 653, 849.
For those of you who are telling us vaccines are an infringement of your personal rights, I have a question. Why do you ignore your impact on passing this virus around to others and keeping the virus going?
Back in the “old days” we used to help each other out. If there was a flood or a fire or even something as small as a lost pet neighbors and others would help. These days there seems to be a group of Americans that think their personal rights are more important than stopping this blasted coronavirus that has stopped the economy, the education of our kids, and the health of the community.
We're coming out of the economic doldrums, our kids can return to school for their education, but the health of our community isn't improving. Quite the opposite. And, I would argue that for our kids to be educated well at our schools (or at home) or for our economy to bounce back to its fullest, we need a healthy community.
I must admit that if I had an elective surgery, or if I was having a baby, or needed stitches after an accident and had to wait because an unvaccinated patient took priority over the more normal needs of the hospital? I would be very unhappy.
I don't think that has happened yet … but Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon and Alaska are having a hard time dealing with their healthcare and the ability to keep up with those unvaccinated, very sick people, let alone what used to be normal for our hospitals. They are making hard decisions over who gets that bed or that doc or that nurse.
I just read an article about Hawaii deciding that those who may first suffer from a medical care shortage will be seniors.
And, that's another thing that bothers me about you who have elected to shun the shot now (and obviously, if there's a medical reason you aren't getting vaccinated, I'm not talking to you).
You're not only deciding to harm our town, our healthcare providers are likely getting tired of seeing you and caring for you and, some are quitting. After all, you have made a choice to get sick. Until Delta it wasn't quite as dire, but now? Look back at the numbers. Graph them on a piece of paper... watch the increase of cases happen week in and week out.
Let's bring those numbers down, get vaccinated, help Carson City recover from this pandemic.
