The Churchill County commissioners conducted their second meeting of the month last week.
• The Bureau of Land Management updated commissioners on activities in the Carson City Stillwater Field Office.
The Dixie Meadows geothermal environmental assessment has been completed, but an emergency petition was submitted regarding the toad on the Endangered Species Act. The BLM state director contacted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and a decision will not be forthcoming for another year.
Ormat’s proposed Diamond Flat project is undergoing drilling and testing. The site is south of Fallon and near the Walker River Paiute Tribe reservation. The Comstock geothermal project north of Dixie Meadows is undergoing drilling and testing on 10 exploratory wells.
A proposed solar project south of Yerington will be the largest in the West, the BLM said.
Cleanup of the desert is ongoing after the Reno to Las Vegas off-road race.
• Approved $2,500 for the Churchill County Search and Rescue’s Trunk or Treat Event. The Downtown Merchants Association disbanded and will not be doing a Spooktacular on Maine Street at the end of October.
• Approved purchase of Conservation/Restrictive Use Easements with Denver Scott Nygren and Randall Brent Evans and Kristen Arlene Evans.
• Approved an interlocal contract between the state of Nevada, Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child and Family Services, and Churchill County Social Services for mandated child protective investigative services.

• Ratified agreements between Churchill County Social Services and Clean All Around for the provision of Homemaker Services at Churchill County’s William N. Pennington Life Center; the state of Nevada, Aging and Disability Services Division, for the provision of the Congregate Meal Program for $54,588.50; notice with the state, Aging and Disability Services Division, for the provision of the Meals on Wheels Program for $50,746.86; approved notices of sub-award with the state, Aging and Disability Services Division, for the provision of the Homemaker Program for $81,789.12; to purchase domestically produced food for the Title III-C Meal Programs for $11,241.32.
• Approved a sub-award Agreement between Churchill County Social Services and The Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education, University of Nevada, Reno for the provision of the evaluation of the development of a Health District, the mapping process, and the strategies for implementation of the Health District prior to November 2023 for $100,000.
• Employee service awards were presented to the following:
5 years: Jason Stritenberger; Sheriff’s Office; Maria Gill, library.
10 Years: Jamie Sunderman, Child Support Division; Shannon Perez; District Attorney’s Office; Julia Mello, Juvenile Probation Office.
