A field of 75 players will began play in Stage One Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club. This year’s group of golfers embarking on the annual grind to attempt to get to the Tour have had to overcome a year of numerous setbacks and pauses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A former University of Nevada golfer provides local interest and seven players who advanced through Dayton Q-school in 2019 are back to start the qualifying process again.
Many of the professionals in the field have gained experience playing the PGA Tour LatinoAmerica, the Forme Tour and the Mackenzie PGA Tour Canada. Numerous veterans in the field have played on the Korn Ferry Tour and are looking for a return trip through this year’s Q-school process.
The talented field includes 19 players who have previously played in a Dayton Q-school.
Twenty-three players in the field advanced from pre-qualifying tournaments that began the qualifying process for the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour season.
Here are some players to watch in the 2021 Dayton field:
Kaleb Gorbahn, Smithers, BC, Canada – Finished second at 8-under in the 2018 Dayton Q-school in his professional debut. Played on the Wolf Pack golf squad for two years in 2017 and 2018 after transferring from NAIA Holy Cross College in South Bend, Ind. He was a steady contributor to those Nevada teams. A three-sport star in high school growing up in British Columbia, he has played pro tournament events in Canada with the Fprme and MacKenzie Tours.
Lorens Chan, Los Angeles, Calif. – Is playing in his fourth Dayton Q-school. He was the low qualifier at 17-under at Dayton in 2018 and finished 4th at 14-under in 2017. He finished in 169th place on the 2020-21 Korn Ferry Tour in 22 tournaments
Tyler Weworski, Carlsbad, Calif. – The former Texas Tech golfer is making a sixth start at Dayton and was the low qualifier in 2013 at 14-under, five shots ahead of second place finisher Tony Finau who just competed for the victorious U.S. Ryder Cup Team.
Gunner Wiebe, Sherman Oaks, Calif. – The son of former PGA and Champions Tour star Mark Wiebe, he is playing in his fifth Dayton Q-school and has advanced three times. His best finish is a T3 in 2012 at 10-under.
Ben Geyer, Arbuckle, Calif. – The former St. Mary’s golfer is making his fifth start at Dayton with a best finish of 2nd low qualifier in 2015 at 17-under. He went on to play in 15 events on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2015.
JooHyung Kim, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea – He played in five tournaments on the 2020-21 PGA Tour making four cuts and a best finish of T15 at the Puerto Rico Open. The 19-year old also has five international victories including the 2019 Panasonic Open India on the Asian Tour.
Gregor Main, Danville, Calif. – The former UCLA golfer is making his seventh start in a Dayton qualifier. He finished T12 at 4-under in 2019. He played in the 2016 U.S. Open and has played in seven PGA Tour tournaments.
This is the seventh year for this Q-school process to be the primary avenue to the PGA Tour. It continues a record run of 26 consecutive years of PGA, Web.com Tour and now Korn Ferry Tour qualifying at Dayton Valley Golf Club.
The 72-hole tournament gets underway daily at 8:30 a.m. with players teeing off in threesomes from both the 1st and 10th tees, barring the possibility of frost delay. Gallery admission is free to the public.
Dayton Valley is one of 12 sites across the country hosting First Stage qualifying tournaments in September. Second Stage qualifying will be played at five sites in October.
The Final Stage will be played Nov. 4-7 at The Landings Club in Savannah, Ga
