The Nevada State Legislature lawn is glittering with hundreds of spinning pinwheels. Carson City gathered on Friday to decorate the capitol in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
“We all benefit when groups of people work together to collectively care for children,” said Amanda Haboush-Deloye, executive director of Prevent Child Abuse Nevada, in a press release.
Pinwheels commonly symbolize childhood and happiness. PCA-NV and Carson City’s Advocates to End Domestic Violence hope that the pinwheel garden raises awareness for every child’s right to a safe, healthy, and happy life.
From July 2020 to June 2021, Nevada had 3,244 substantiated cases of child abuse and neglect, and removed 2,896 children from their homes, according to the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services.
“Check in on the children in your life. … Pinwheels for prevention is you. It’s me. It’s all of us working together,” said Mayra Pacheco with PCA-NV. Photos by Faith Evans for the Nevada Appeal.
