The Churchill County Democrats held their precinct caucus and county convention on Saturday.
The precinct caucus was called to order at 10 a.m., with 14 participants and Matthew Fonken, executive director of the Nevada State Democratic Party. He explained many of the changes that have occurred in the state Democratic Party with Nevada changing from being a caucus state to having a presidential primary.
Fonken said the state statutes regarding political central committees, NRS 292, were repealed. The state parties still have their rules, but he said several state laws are no longer in effect.
Fonken also described plans to support Democratic candidates throughout the state during this election cycle.
After the caucus, the county convention convened shortly after noon. New Central Committee members were voted in, and then attendees voted on delegates to the state convention which is June 25 in Reno.
The county political platform was also discussed. After all business items were covered, the convention adjourned at 1:45 p.m. The next precinct caucus/county convention will be held in 2024.
