Another 23 people died on Nevada roads and highways in March, bringing this year’s total to 70 deaths.
But that is an improvement compared to 2021 when 81 were killed in the first three months.
Also improved is the number of unrestrained people killed in crashes — 16 compared to 23 at this time a year ago.
The vast majority of those deaths are in Clark County — 59 in all. Of those, 21 were pedestrians, 11 were motorcyclists and three were bicyclists.
Statewide, 24 pedestrians have been killed so far in 2022.
Carson City, Lyon and Douglas counties have no fatalities this year but Churchill has two, matching the first three months of 2021. One of those was a pedestrian.
Elko and Nye counties each have two deaths so far. One of those killed in Nye was a motorcyclist.
The only other county reporting roadway deaths is Washoe, where five people have been killed this year. Two of the victims were pedestrians.
