The Board of Examiners on Tuesday approved a contract to get the rehabilitation of the Marlette Lake Hobart Reservoir under way.
The project includes the architectural and engineering of the project plus biological/environmental studies as well as cultural studies and construction administration services.
The contract with Lumos & Associates is for $910,100, almost three quarters of which is federal money.
State officials have applied for a $10 million federal grant to cover the bulk of the cost of the project. That cost has been estimated at $13.9 million, leaving the state to pay the remaining $3.9 million.
The historic Marlette water system has provided some water to Carson City and all of Virginia City’s water for more than 100 years.
In addition, the board consisting of the governor, secretary of state and attorney general approved $220,980 to provide planning, content and design for interpretive displays at the Lake Tahoe state park and Washoe Lake state park. The contract is with Taylor Studios and is funded by license plate revenue (20 percent), bonds (40 percent) and federal money (40 percent).
