Rep. Steven Horsford, D-Nev., says $3.5 million will come from the federal government to support schools, roads and municipal services.
The funding is coming through the Secure Rural Schools program and the Community Self Determination Act. He said the goal is to support rural counties whose tax base is limited by the amount of tax-exempt federal land within their borders.
In some rural Nevada counties, more than 90 percent of the land is federally held.
“We must prioritize these needed investments in communities in areas near national forests,” said Horsford, who represents Nevada’s 4th Congressional District.
