 Carson High boys golf second at home meet

Led by senior Lukas Taggart, Carson High boys’ golf finished behind Reno High (298) at Eagle Valley on a blustery Monday.
Taggart ended his day with four birdies while posting a one-over 73.
Tristan Hawkins posted a six-over-78 behind an eagle on the 10th hole and two other birdies.
Thomas Burchett also entered the clubhouse with a 78, shooting a relatively even day with 13 pars to his name.
Hawkins and Burchett were seventh and eighth, respectively, as individuals.
Andrew Kalicki started the day with a birdie on the second hole before shooting an 85.
Carter March and Thomas Grundy rounded out the Senators’ top six with scores of 104 and 105, respectively.

Carson High softball wins cold, windy affair
After getting a week off for spring break, Carson High softball was back in action Thursday on a chilly, wet afternoon.
In a 14-4 win over Damonte Ranch in six innings, the Senators broke the game open in the fifth inning behind a seven-run home half.
Senator pitcher Caydee Farnworth struck out 12 in the circle while also launching a three-run homer to center field in the fifth, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
“I don’t think so,” said Farnworth on if she’s hit a ball further at Carson’s home field. “We were seeing the ball really well. Our whole lineup is seeing the ball really well.”
Freshman Sofia Morrison helped out her pitcher as well with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the second, marking her first long ball as a varsity player in a Senator uniform.
Isabella Reyes went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs while Shannen von Duering and Rhys Branham each doubled in the win.
Corine Doran and von Duering each had two more RBIs for the Senators.
UP NEXT: Carson (9-7, 5-2 in Class 5A league play) will welcome the top foe in the north, Spanish Springs (19-3-1, 8-0), to town for a doubleheader Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.


Carson High baseball blanked by Damonte Ranch
The Senator baseball team fell to the Mustangs on Thursday in Reno, 10-0, in five innings.
Damonte’s Eddie Tierney threw a no-hitter for the Mustangs with 12 strikeouts in the five-inning win.
Dillon Damico went three innings on the bump for Carson, striking out three while allowing six earned runs.
The Senators drew a pair of walks in the loss as a unit.
UP NEXT: Carson (3-19-1, 1-10) is back in action Saturday at Galena (10-16, 4-6).


Sierra Lutheran baseball sweeps Mineral County
April 16, in a doubleheader against 1A rival Mineral County at home, Sierra Lutheran took the sweep, 10-4 in the first game in 8-3 in the second.
Junior Charles Gagen pitched seven innings in the first game with 12 strikeouts.
UP NEXT: The Falcons improved their record to 7-5 and 6-2 in league play. Sierra Lutheran returns to action to face Excel Christian Tuesday at home at 2 p.m.


Dayton baseball falls to Fallon
The Dust Devil baseball team fell to 6-12 this season after a 12-0 loss to Churchill County on Monday.
Senior Robbie Harrison leads the Dust Devils with a .472 batting average with 11 doubles in the 10 games posted on MaxPreps thus far.
UP NEXT: Dayton jumps back on the field this weekend for a three-game set with Fernley (10-5, 7-3 in Class 3A), starting Friday afternoon.
