The Oasis Academy softball team out-slugged Smith Valley, 30-19, last Tuesday in Lyon County.
The Bighorns improved to 8-2 in the 1A Northern League and currently sit in third behind Wells (3-0) and Coleville (9-2). They traveled to Sierra Sage/ROP this week and visit Whittell on Friday. The season finale is against Smith Valley at 4 p.m. on May 3, which is also Senior Day. The playoffs begin the following week.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-1 lead after two innings before the Bighorns came back with nine in the third to trim the deficit to a run. Smith Valley, though, scored six unanswered to pad its lead to 17-10 after four innings. Oasis Academy scored five in the fifth and one in the sixth to trail by two going into the final inning after the Bulldogs scored once in the sixth.
The Bighorns scored 14 in the seventh to complete the comeback as they tallied 18 hits, including seven doubles, in 60 plate appearances.
Freshman K Detomasi led the team with five hits, including three doubles, and four RBIs, while senior Kaitlyn Hert finished with four hits, including a pair of doubles, and four RBIs. Freshman Taylynn Maynez drove in three on three hits, and sophomore Eneyde Rios drove in a pair on three hits. Senior Rachel Bake singled and freshman Lorena Rios doubled as each had three RBIs, and freshman Kaylin Guthrie doubled and drove in two.
Lady Bighorns lacrosse win 1st game
The Oasis Academy girls lacrosse team shut out Damonte Ranch, 11-0, last Thursday in Fallon for its first win of the season.
The Bighorns traveled to first-place Galena on Tuesday before hosting Reno on Wednesday. They travel to Truckee on Monday.
Girls basketball camp June 30-July 1
Ex-Greenwave star Liz Lewis, who coaches at Gillette College, will conduct the youth girls summer camp from 8 a.m. to noon on June 30 and July 1.
The camp costs $80 and is open to girls entering grades 3-8 next fall. To register, email ladywaveba@gmail.com..
Boys basketball tournament June 11-12
The Greenwave boys basketball program will host a tournament June 11 and 12.
The tournament is open to boys teams with players in eighth through 12th grades. The entry fee per team is $250 and there’s a $25 discount for multiple teams from the same program.
