U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., says the $1 billion in wildfire prevention funding contained in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill is available to communities in Nevada and other states.
“I want to make sure these funds get to Nevada communities that need them and I encourage local and tribal governments to apply and help Nevada stay safe,” she said.
Cortez Masto said individual grants of up to $250,000 are available to create and update community wildfire protection plans or conduct outreach and education. She said up to $10 million is available for infrastructure and resilience projects.
Projects must be completed within five years of being awarded funding. A total of $200 million is available in each of the next five years.
Cortez Masto initially joined in sponsoring the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program that was later included in the infrastructure legislation.
