Through July, roadway fatalities are down in most Nevada counties.
The exception is Clark County, where 142 have died this year compared to 119 last year.
Carson City also has an uptick in fatals, by one – from two last year to three this year. Douglas County also increased deaths by one, to five.
Nye County helped significantly to offset Clark’s numbers, reporting five fatalities through July compared to 18 a year ago. So did Churchill County, down from seven a year ago to two this year.
Esmeralda and White Pine counties both reported four killed at this point in 2021. This year, they are the only two Nevada counties without a roadway fatality so far.
The result? At July’s end, 211 people had died statewide, the same as a year ago.
The number of pedestrian deaths was also the same as a year ago — 43.
Deaths of motorcyclists have increased so far in 2022. Where 41 had been killed at this point in 2021, this year there have been 47 deaths.
The number of bicyclists killed also increased this year — up two to eight so far. But the number of deaths by riders of scooters, mopeds and ATVs id down from three to one.
The roadway statistics are reported monthly by the Nevada’s Office of Traffic Safety.
