Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., and 16 of her colleagues are calling on the U.S. Department of Education to extend a waiver that will make it easier for military members to access benefits through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. She said the education secretary has already agreed to automatically enroll members of the military in the program but that the required record matching hasn’t been completed. That process is necessary to ensure service members with student debt receive debt relief as intended. They asked that the waiver, set to expire in October, be extended until the data matching process is completed and service members can automatically receive the benefits they are entitled to.
