Caden McKnight won his division in the Lovelock Mustangs Invitational on Saturday as Fallon finished third in the team standings.

Lowry won the tournament with 248.5 points followed by Los Gatos (Calif.) with 183.5 and Fallon with 157.

Along with McKnight, Jaiden McFadden, Jeramiah Prinz and Kade Morales each finished second, Colton Blankenship finished third, and Andre Green and Carlos Valenzuela each placed fourth in the single-day tournament after Fallon competed in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Friday.

“The TOC was tough,” Fallon coach Trevor deBraga said after his team won four matches during the tournament. “I didn’t have huge expectations but thought we would compete better than that.”

But deBraga was happy with how the team rebounded the next day in Lovelock.

“We had sickness going through the room the past two weeks and we were missing 11 kids, but we did compete a lot better on Saturday,” he said. “It was a good tournament for my young guys as well as the older guys winning a bunch of good matches and getting quality mat time.”

Fallon next competes Dec. 28-29 at the Sierra Nevada Classic in downtown Reno.

McKnight (147) pinned all four of his opponents to win the middleweight class.

McKnight pinned his teammate, Kolby McFadden, in the first round before taking care of Wells’ Thomas French and McQueen’s Griffen Muckel in the first period. McKnight pinned Carson’s Ethan Linehan with 40 seconds left in the second period of the championship bout.

McFadden (126) finished second, falling to Lowry’s Brenton Baker in the second period of the championship match. McFadden, though, pinned his first two opponents, Tonopah’s Mitchell Miller and Lowry’s Logan Ricci. After falling to McKnight, McFadden (147) pinned Reed’s Noah Gonzalves in the third period before falling to Sparks’ Kail Bengoa to finish 2-1.

Prinz (144) pinned his first three opponents, including two in the first period, to advance to the championship.

Prinz fell to Los Gatos’ Anthony Ramirez in the second period after he pinned Reed’s Hayden Horstman, Hug’s Steven Burlingham and Reno’s Alexander Hayes. In the RTOC, Prinz fell with 15 seconds left in his first match but rebounded with an 11-2 decision over Micah George (Heber City, Utah). Prinz, though, lost 16-1 in his last match.

Kade Morales (175B) finished second after he opened the day with falls over North Valleys’ Baltazar Santiago and teammate Valenzuela. Lowry’s TJ Mattson pinned Morales in the second period to win the division.

Blankenship (175) captured third place as he won all five matches by fall, including his opener over North Valleys’ Luke Wolfe.

After falling to Lowry’s Luke Fentress in the quarterfinal, Blankenship pinned Carson’s Nicholas Rico and Isaac Guzman, both in the first period, and North Valleys’ Mason Baker in the second period to set up the third-place battle. He pinned Coral Academy’s Leonardo Guillen 43 seconds into the match. In the RTOC, Blankenship pinned Danian Deen (Central Point, Ore.) in the second period of his second match but fell with four seconds left in the first period of his last match.

Andre Green (113) placed fourth after opening with two wins to advance to the semifinals when he was pinned by Los Gatos’ Joseph Ramirez in the first period. Green, though, pinned Reno’s Bhanu Ghimire in the consolation semis but fell to Eureka’s Orlando Casas.

Valenzuela (175B) finished fourth after he pinned Hug’s Wyatt Reed in the first round. After falling to Morales, Valenzuela won the next by injury default but lost 8-3 to McQueen’s Brandon Romero.

Troy Shelton (157) finished 3-2 but was one win away from wrestling for third place. After falling in the opener, Shelton pinned Incline’s Aidan Midgley, Spanish Springs’ Tristan Spencer and Carson’s Ean Thomas. Shelton fell to Lowry’s Damon Fetty in the consolation semifinals.

Macray O’Neill (165) finished 3-2 after falling in his first bout. He picked up a forfeit and followed with pins over teammate Lucas Costagliola and Reed’s Drake Polak before falling to Reno’s Breck Worthen in the consolation semifinals.

Thayne Hatch (165) finished 2-2, winning his two in the consolation bracket over Reno’s Graham Lemons (fall) and McQueen’s Ryan McGee (5-2). Hatch, though, fell to Carson’s Konnor Crisp in the consolation semifinals. In the RTOC, Hatch pinned Dylan Shafizadeh (Bluffdale, Utah) in the second period of his second match but fell quickly in his third bout.

Costagliola (165) opened with a fall over Reno’s Armando Breceda but fell to Los Gatos’ Teddy Smith before losing to O’Neill.

Michele Grossi (215) finished 2-2, picking up a win by forfeit before decisioning North Valleys’ Robert Cohenover, 7-5. Lowry’s Logan Jonas pinned Grossi in the second period of the consolation semifinals.
