ORIGINAL:

Wednesday evening, the Carson City Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting in downtown Carson City, Sheriff Ken Furlong said in a release.

Patrol units responded to East William Street and North Stewart Street and took a 19-year-old suspect into custody still at the scene of the shooting. In his possession was a semi-automatic pistol and an identification card issued out of Texas, the release said.

At the scene, an adult male was determined to have been shot in the chest. Carson Fire/Paramedics treated the victim and transported him to a nearby Care Flight for transfer to Renown Medical Center. The victim’s condition at the time of transport was critical.

Information that was immediately received indicated that the victim, along with his 17-year-old son and a friend, were walking on the sidewalk on William Street.

For reasons still under investigation, they had contact with the suspect (also a pedestrian) and an argument ensued. During the argument, it is alleged that the suspect pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and shot the victim.

The area was immediately determined to be safe with no on-going threat to the public.

Identification of the suspect and victim is currently being withheld.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident, including vehicle dash cameras, is asked to contact the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-COPS (2677).
