Humorist McAvoy Layne, who portrays Mark Twain, will provide the entertainment at this year’s Churchill County Republican Central Committee.
Reservations are now being taken for this year’s Lincoln Day Dinner hosted by the Churchill County Republican Central Committee.
This year’s dinner with live entertainment, silent and auction auctions and candidates for the 2022 election cycle returns to its familiar late winter date of March 19 at the Fallon Convention Center.
CCRCC Chairman Gary Smith said the evening will feature humorist McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain, a character he has portrayed for more than 30 years. His performances have taken him from Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City to around the world.
Through Twain, Layne has preserved the wit and humor of the noted American author who became one of the preeminent novelists of the mid-to-late 1800s. Layne has received the Nevada Award for Excellence in School and Library Service and the Discovery Channel's Cronkite Award for a winning documentary on the “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”
In addition to Layne, Smith said the Lincoln Highway Band of Fallon will provide the evening’s music and play the national anthem, and after the dinner, Smith said incumbent office holders and Republican candidates who have filed will be allowed to speak. Filing took place in early March.
The Churchill Republican Women and Steve Ranson, co-author of "Legacies of the Silver State: Nevada Goes to War,” will be selling the book at this year's Churchill County Republican's annual Lincoln Day Dinner. Proceeds will go to the Churchill Republican Women scholarship program. A silent and live auction is also planned for the evening.
Cost for the dinner is $65 per person or $520 for a table of eight. An early bird special is $60 per person and $480 for a table of eight when paid before Feb. 20. The Fallon Lions Club is providing both the dinner and no-host bar.
