Discussions for a second bridge in Dayton are expected to continue at a planned workshop to address Lyon County’s priorities for its major community projects.
At the Lyon County Commission’s meeting on Thursday, the board heard from County Manager Jeff Page about the possibility of placing a second bridge in Dayton to provide greater access. The Dayton Valley Road bridge has been the area’s only public access since 2008.
According to the 2010 Master Plan, placing a bridge on Cardelli Road where the county could purchase property near Sutro Road wide enough to manage traffic and handle trucks to pass through is one option. A two-span bridge off Chaves Road requiring the county to buy property and construct a road network to tie into Dayton Valley Road and Lakes Boulevard would be a second option.
Dayton has experienced 17.7% growth between 2010 and 2020, largely due to increased traffic since USA Parkway opened and businesses have opened or expanded, transporting their goods on U.S. 50 through Dayton.
Page said no one has received either option well, sharing in the past he has been stuck due to a car wreck on Dayton Valley Road.
No action was taken, but the board asked Page to hold a special meeting in Dayton. The workshop has yet to be announced.
