Emergency personnel are responding to a reported head-on collision at Tramway and Kingsbury Grade involving a pickup and a sport utility vehicle. The call came in at around 6:15 a.m., with Tahoe-Douglas firefighters and Douglas deputies en route to the scene.

Chains are required over Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 north to Uppaway Estates this morning unless you have a vehicle with four-wheel drive and snow tires.

Motorists should anticipate road controls on Highway 395 in the Pine Nuts at some point early this morning with falling snow visible on the Double Spring and Holbrook Junction traffic cameras.

There’s a light dusting of snow in several places across Carson City and Carson Valley, as it was snowing lightly around 4:30 a.m. this morning.

The storm appears to be moving faster than expected with snow that wasn’t expected to arrive until this afternoon already falling south of Highway 50

“Bands of snow are currently moving over the region along a sharp cold frontal boundary pushing south and east over the Sierra and Western Nevada,” said National Weather Service Reno Meteorologist Amanda Young at 3 a.m. “Plenty of forcing and lift will allow snow to continue south from Lake Tahoe across the eastern Sierra into Mono County through this morning into the afternoon.”

Because the snow started falling overnight, motorists should expect roads to be slushy during the morning commute, especially at higher elevations.

This morning saw the first precipitation to fall in Carson Valley since Dec. 28, 2021.
