The Carson City Symphony Association will hold an Artist-in-Residence Workshop-Masterclass from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Adams Hub, 111 W. Proctor St. The workshop features Stephen Framil, internationally renowned cello soloist, Music Director and Conductor of Camerata Philadelphia, Artistic Director of the Port City Music Festival in North Carolina, and Symphony Orchestra Music Director & Conductor at Eastern University. Framil will be in Carson City to perform as guest soloist with the Carson City Symphony on Feb. 27. The Artist-in-Residence event is free and open to the public. Framil will work with cello students from Carson City Symphony’s “Symphony Youth Strings” program; Carson Middle School, Eagle Valley Middle School, and Carson High School orchestras; and adult cellists in the community. He will lead a group class for cellists of all levels of experience and a one-one-one masterclass. To sign up for the Workshop-Masterclass, contact the Symphony at carsocitysymphony@gmail.com or 775-883-4154. Student musicians and the public are also invited to attend as observers. At the Workshop, Framil will also give a short presentation on the Cello Concerto in D minor by Édouard Lalo, which he will perform with the Carson City Symphony on Sunday at the Carson City Community Center. He will play excerpts from the solo cello part of the concerto and discuss its history, style, and composer. All participants will be given complimentary family tickets to the Sunday concert. The Artist-in-Residence Workshop-Masterclass is funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. For information, call the Symphony at 775-883-4154.
