The Class of 1971 met earlier this year for their 50th class reunion.
My 50th class reunion was this year. When you are younger, it is more of a competition rally of who is who and what you have accomplished. For some this can leave a bad taste, and many may not return to their next one.
Your 50th reunion is different. If you are fortunate enough to live this long and have the chance, you must go. It is not a judgmental time; it is a time to be appreciative and thankful that you have an opportunity to attend and come together as one.
Have we changed? Of course!
Many of us have known each other since grammar school and even though a lot of years have passed, you may think that you will remember no one, or them you; but you will be surprised. What you do recognize is a smile, their eyes or voice. This is part of the experience… Enjoy it!
It is no secret that we are all getting older, and at this time in our lives we all are in a phase that none of us could have imagined, including using old clichés we thought we would never use. Many of us have all lost loved ones, spouses, or friends; and have been or are going through illnesses. Several of us are now grandparents or great-grandparents, and we all have lived life and been through world crisis’s that we could not have envisioned when we were younger. This gives us common ground to reunite those old friendships or create new ones.
Our 50th class reunion was a wonderful experience that none of us will forget. A range of 100 COVID-free people showed up each night. This class photo was taken early in the second evening. It was an honor to be part of the committee with Toni Westbrook, Vicki Hass, Claudia Jones, and Roberta Adams that put this together, and to see all our classmates who traveled near and far.
A special thank you to the following establishments who made our event possible with great food, Ambience & Music:
• Terri McNutt at “Silver Oaks Club House” for Hosting Friday night's dinner
• Music by our very own classmate Mike Rodriquez’s “The Robin Street Band”
• Suzanne & Rowan at “The Pour House” for Saturday Nights Event at Telegraph Square, they collaborated with Tee Jay’s Corner & Juan's Mexican Grill
• Music by: John Eldridge
My husband, Lloyd Mack, was a teacher for this class and called it a spiritual time. I could not have agreed more.
FYI we did not meet in school, I was 28 when we were married, that’s another story!
Wishing You All A NEW YEAR that is filled with love, peace, kindness, health and prosperity.
God bless,
Doreen Mack
