Mayor Lori Bagwell will provide insight into the state of this city following her first year in office during the annual State of the City Address.
Presented by the Carson City Chamber, the State of the City Address will be held at the Casino Fandango at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 27.
The first Chamber State of the City address was presented in 2010 after Mayor Robert Crowell’s first year in office.
Carson City’s first elected female mayor, Bagwell took office Jan. 1, 2020, and has had to navigate though the continuing COVID crisis that seems to be endless. She has had to shepherd staff to comply with and carry out the various federal and state mandates while keeping the city on a positive course. Under her guidance, the city continues to rank either number 1 or 2 when it comes to citizen vaccinations, now at 70.2% having received one or more doses and 60.8% fully vaccinated.
Bagwell will explain how the federal and state COVID grants have been spent and how the new infrastructure grants will help Carson City replace or repair infrastructure.
She also will provide insight into how Carson City is projected to grow and what new private infrastructure is being built to house new citizens and what federal, state, or city projects are on the drawing board.
Although the day-to-day management of Carson City is under the guidance of City Manager Nancy Paulson and Deputy City Manager Stephanie Hicks, it is the elected mayor and board of supervisors who set the policies and provide guidance.
Bagwell also serves on seven city and regional committees.
A resident of Carson City since 1966, she graduated from Carson High in 1980 and began her 30-year career in government at the age of 17 with the Department of Taxation and has a long list of service in several state departments rising up to deputy director of the Department of Corrections before her retirement.
The $30 registration includes lunch and is open to the general public. Reservations must be made prior to Jan. 24 and may be made online by going to http://www.carsoncitychamber.com/spotlight/details/2022_state_of_the_city_address. A sell-out is expected thus early registration is advised.
