The state has received applications for grant funding from 337 of the Silver State’s non-profit organizations.
The Community Recovery Grant program was launched last month, funded by American Rescue Plan dollars. It aims to use existing non-profit organizations to provide direct and immediate community services.
After reviewing the applications, the governor’s office will present an initial set of applications to the Legislative Interim Finance Committee in February.
“The response to this program has been overwhelming,” said Gov. Steve Sisolak. “From what we are seeing, the expertise provided by Nevada’s non-profits is in great demand.”
Sen. Chris Brooks, D-Las Vegas, who chairs IFC, said Nevada is able to provide local non-profits with $30 million to improve the lives of families experiencing hardships from the pandemic.
Vice Chair of IFC Daniele Monroe Moreno, D-Las Vegas, said the grants will help those organizations recover.
The funds can’t be used for operations or infrastructure needs but are designed to help increase the services the non-profits provide to the community. The money can be used for such things as providing good jobs, support access to quality and affordable childcare as well as access to secure housing.
