Top Gun Dragstrip will host a three-day event Friday through Sunday at the quarter-mile strip south of Fallon.
Test-N-Tune (T-N-T) and grudge racing highlight Friday’s action, beginning at 6 p.m. The Summit ET and Jr. Drag’s seventh and eighth points races are Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.
Spectator fees are $5 and racing fees are $20 on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, adult admission is $10, children ages 6-12 and seniors and military are $5. Children ages 5-under are free.
Racer fees range from $20 for diesel trucks and street legal with no payout or trophy to $60 for Super Pro.
Grudge racing and T-N-T are on Aug. 13, while the last set of points races isn’t until Sept. 17-18, the season finale.
In the Junior Dragster class, Kellen Schmid, of Minden, leads with 289 points followed by Sparks’ Nicholas Morris with 256. Gardnerville’s Crue Casteel and Minden’s Jayce Schmid are tied for third with 245 points, and Sparks Abigail West, who won the last race on June 12, is fifth at 234.
In the motorcycle category, Dayton’s Mike Downs leads the 11-contestant field with 340 points followed by Fallon’s Dominic Davis with 296. Fernley’s Tommy Brown has a 274-252 advantage over Fallon’s Donald Palmer for third, while Fallon’s Dakota Sasser is fifth at 230.
Fallon’s Walt Stacey has a 99-point advantage in the 17-racer Sportsman division. Stacey enters this weekend with 401 points followed by Sparks’ Cortney Morris with 302. Fallon’s Glenn Reeves sits in third with 280 points, Carson City’s Zach Clarke is fourth with 269 and Fallon’s Anthony Sabatino rounds out the top five with 247 points. There’s a bottleneck in the next five spots with Big Pine’s (Calif.) Robin Roberts and Fallon’s Phil Sabatino tied for sixth at 236. Fallon’s James Cook and Marc Close, and Jeffery Scwab are tied for seventh at 225.
Fallon’s Jim Grace leads the 21-racer Pro division with 345 points followed by Carson City’s Mason Marlin with 301. Sparks' Kevin Morris is third with 279 points, Fernley’s Alvin Clarke is fourth with 257 and Reno’s John Swartz is fifth at 246. The next five to round out the top 10 are Big Pine’s Tom Bayer with 235 and a three-way tie among Winnemucca’s Carl Arns, Fallon’s James Cook and Sparks’ Davis Schnepp at 224. Reno’s Dave Dubose is 10th at 216.
In the Super Pro, Lonnie Grace has a sizable lead, 317-273, over Dayton’s Glen Schierholt, followed by Carson City’s Troy Moyle at 262. Eric Setterberg sits in fourth with 251 points followed by Winnemucca’s Laurie Pickett. Reno’s Tom Christian and Jamie West are fifth and sixth at 218 and 207, respectively, followed by Fallon’s Jeff Lundy, 187, and Ben Blackburn, 178. Frank Barrett is 10th at 167.
