A local celebrity plays the Levitt AMP Concert Series this weekend. Whitney Myer, a local musician known for her time on NBC’s The Voice, performs Saturday in Carson City. She burst onto the scene 10 years ago in 2012 when she performed Alicia Keys’ “No One” in front of Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton. The Reno native said she is happy to perform in front of the hometown crowd. “I’m super lucky since being on The Voice people really supported me there,” she said. She said she is from Reno, but she went to Carson City schools for a few years and she has played many shows in the area. “I have a bit of a following there,” she said. The last time Myer performed in Carson City was Jan. 25, 2020. That was part of the Loud As Folk singer/songwriter music series. That was a stripped-down version of her songs. This show will be totally different with a full band. “This is a seven-piece band, so this is a full production,” she said. “It’s a rocking, high energy performance.” The band includes Myer on guitar and vocals. Then backing her up is an electric guitar, bass, drums, keys and two background vocalists. She said her music is high-energy soulful pop. She writes many songs and has quite the collection. She said she has probably 200 unreleased songs and there will be plenty of new music at the show. She has songs that have been used on TV and film she will also share. “I have tons of new music,” she said. “I’m kind of always adding those to the set.” Her bio says her music is a nexus of R&B and rock and roll. “Myer’s soulful vocals and electrifying live performances have mesmerized audiences,” it says. She has performed at notable festivals such as Lightning in a Bottle, The Bounce Festival and SXSW. She said her live performances are very entertaining and have something for everyone. She said outdoor performances are fun and it’s an easy environment to be comfortable and relax and have a good time. She hopes everyone from every age can enjoy her show. “Little kids like it and like to dance, and older people like it because I have some soulful roots that influence my music,” she said. “So I think it brings in a wide variety.” IF YOU GO WHAT: Whitney Myer at Brewery Art Center’s Levitt AMP Concert Series WHERE: The Change Companies Stage, 449 W.
