The Community College Workforce Training and Programs Committee has approved a pilot program designed to find ways to make community college and workforce training programs free for more students. Earlier this year, Gov. Steve Sisolak put $5 million in federal funds into a Workforce Incentive Grant program. He said the funding will help the committee find ways to reduce the cost of community college or make it free for students not currently eligible for other scholarship opportunities. He said the committee will also target students seeking degrees or certificates for high-demand occupations. The goal, he said, is to make those programs free to more students by 2025.
